Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. helped get the Gateway Program one step closer to construction when the Biden Administration agreed to complete the program’s environmental review by May 28th.  Rep. Payne, Jr. led a letter to the Biden Administration last December with the support of the entire New Jersey Democratic Senate and Congressional delegation to prioritize the Gateway Program in the administration’s new infrastructure plans.  The recent announcement from the Department of Transportation serves as a response to Rep. Payne, Jr.’s letter and proves the Biden Administration’s commitment to completing the Gateway Program.

“This is great news for the residents of northern New Jersey and all travelers in the Northeast Corridor,” said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr.  “We are moving forward to build the Portal North Bridge already, but we need to take more action on the Hudson Tunnel project.  Both projects are necessary to replace area infrastructure that is more than 100 years old.  The Gateway Program must be the top priority of any infrastructure plan and I’m glad to see the Biden Administration understands the importance of this program to our nation’s infrastructure.”
